Guys, there used to be King and then Clearwater head company that we trusted to get heads from.
Who’s left now?

Is Clearwater still open? Can’t find a website. Seen comments from recent orders though.
King has no website either, so are they out of business?
That being said, plenty of new Chinesium heads on eBay!!
Here’s one on coupon special, $230 shipped complete, ready to bolt on!

Might be worth rolling the dice.
clearwater changed websites to cylinder-heads.com, but it seems to be down! it was still there when i checked about a month ago…
Yeah that’s what I’m getting at with the 4Z heads that’s who Jerry said to use.
I’ve been calling Mike Waldrip at King and they are gone. Had a good experience there. 5 years ago Mike shipped his last 4ZE1 head to Jerry for me. Can’t speak to the quality cuz it hasn’t been run but great service. Jerry did say it sure looked nice to him.
Had to dig through my old emails. A little over a year ago I had a conversation with Jerry when I was looking for a 4Z head. He had recommended Mike at King’s. Rather than retype, I’ll just copy/paste. I did receive a head from David Smith. On my Trooper now and doing well with one exception. If I leave my Trooper idling parked sideways on an incline with the driver’s side down, after a while I’ll get blue smoke out the tailpipe. Clears up when I get back to a normal level. I assume it’s a bad valve guide seal? I don’t put the truck in that situation very often so it doesn’t bother me enough to fix it. Unless I rec’d a strong recommendation to buy from another source, I’d buy from David again. Hope this helps.

GOOD MORNING JERRY. FIGURED I’D GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON MY CYL HEAD SITUATION.
I LEFT A VOICEMAIL FOR MIKE AT KING’S TUES. HE CALLED ME BACK A WHILE LATER, HAD A GOOD CHAT WITH HIM.
GOOD THING I MENTIONED YOUR NAME IN THE VOICEMAIL. HE SAID IF I HADN’T HE WOULDN’T HAVE CALLED ME BACK!
THE REASON IS HE’S SCALING BACK, ONLY TAKING CARE OF HIS OLDER LOYAL CUSTOMERS. HE HATES TO JUST LEAVE
THEM HANGING. AFTER 30 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS, HE’S READY TO CALL IT QUITS. HAS NO PLANS TO SELL HIS BUSINESS
AS HE DOESN’T WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE ON NEW OWNERS TARNISHING HIS REPUTATION SO HE’S JUST STEPPING AWAY.
SO BAD NEWS FOR US ZU OWNERS THAT NEED HEADS. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT HE REFERRED ME TO A FELLOW OUT
OF VEGAS HE HAS WORKED WITH OVER THE YEARS. HE SPOKE VERY HIGHLY OF DAVID SMITH AT ENGINEQUEST.COM
SAYS HE PRIMARILY SELLS ON EBAY, BUT IF I WERE TO CALL TO TELL HIM MIKE GAVE ME HIS NUMBER. SO A NEW
HEAD IS ON THE WAY, DUE HERE NEXT WEEK.. DAVID’S CONTACT INFO IS 702 649 7776 EXT 212 OR DIRECT AT
725 236 4141 AND DES@ENGINEQUEST.COM
SO THANKS FOR THE INFO ON MIKE. HE’S A STAND UP GUY, WISH I’D GOT TO KNOW HIM YEARS AGO. SEEMS LIKE ALL THE GOOD
GUYS THAT DID BUSINESS THE WAY YOU AND I HAVE ARE SLOWLY FADING AWAY. IT’S SAD, THE WORLD IS AN ENTIRELY
DIFFERENT PLACE THESE DAYS.
HOPE TO HAVE MY TROOPER BACK ON THE ROAD SOON.
MIKE
Gruff,Many Thanx..!! Networking and helping each other out,to me,is just why Isuzu Nation was formed.. If I ever change my mind regarding a V-6 88’ to 91’ Trooper,I might just buy a head to hold in reserve on the shelf.. Keeping Jerry’s Work Alive Means Alot To Me..
Good to have a reputable company that you can trust. And if they’re recommended by Jerry, that’s the Gold Seal of ZuZu Approval!
Their bare head is around $429 shipped, looks like the better deal would be the head, assembled with valves/springs/etc for $525 shipped. You add your own cam, rockers, rocker shaft assemblies.
Here’s their listing for one of those heads on eBay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/178170358010
No core required, so that’s a plus. CNC machined machined valve guides and seat, 3-angle valve job, and a “25-point quality check on every head”.
So they’re doing the Q.A. to make sure each head is suitable and isn’t gonna cause issues when it’s bolted up. The heads come with a 12-month warranty as well.
Thanks for the “heads up” ! ![]()
That’s great Mike. Good to know. I sure liked dealing with Mike, we talked quite a bit about things changing. He told me 6 years ago he was thinking about packing it in. He had a big commute and he just didn’t need to be there anymore. Sad he had no one to pass things on to. Well, same thing here getting hard to find anybody to do anything and if you don’t know how things are “supposed” to be you are headed for trouble.
ED, just to clarify. David was not recommended by Jerry, Mike at King’s was who he recommended. Mike then recommended David. Gets confusing, doesn’t it? ![]()
Mike
OK, I think I’m Un-Cornfused now! So its a Jerry Recommendation twice removed I think!!
![]()

I do have an AMC head that I will hold for the right project or sell to someone who is building something killer.
just FYI zu Fam
Yes, the AMC heads were good ones!!
Can you post a pic of the AMC cast marks?
Not without digging it out, not easily no. Sorry
It’s like twice as heavy as any other head I’ve picked up. Has “amc” stamped on it fairly small. I forget where on the unit.
