Dreaded 300 code

Before you post, fill this in — it gets you answers faster:

  • Year: 2004
  • Model: Rodeo
  • Engine: 3.5l GDI
  • Transmission: Automatic
  • What changed recently (if anything):
  • Symptoms / what it’s doing:
  • Codes (if any): P300
  • What you’ve already tried:

My friend and I have been working on my Rodeo trying to get the P300 code resolved.

As of now the following has been done

Timing belt, crank shaft sensor and both crank position sensor, coil packs, spark plugs, intake manifold gasket replaced.

I am at a loss on what to do next

He is doing another smoke test for vacuum leaks. Otherwise, I am not sure where to go next.
We have read the P300 survival guide

Don’t want to sound like a broken record…

BUT!

Just to confirm:

What Plugs?
The correct Coil Pack on 6?

Also (can’t remember if I already asked)

Have you done a Compression/Leakdown Test?

Pull the plugs back out and assess the condition of each..
Then sing that
“Which one of these things is not like the other”
Song to narrow down the suspect cylinder(s)

I know it can be tedious, but by Reading that “survival guide” you mean that you have covered/tried all the things contained within the guide?
(I’m going to go back and read it again myself. I’ve forgotten what it contains:grin:)

My friend who is working on it can only do so much. I asked him about the spark plugs and coil packs. He insisted he has the correct ones that the parts house sold him.
