Heya, guys.
If you were around when we were on the old forum, you may recognize my old thread: Follow my ecu cracking journey !
I’ll be finishing this up here. Luckily, I’m a lot further along than the last post on that page.
Where I currently am at:
I’m waiting to buy a right-sized cable.
I found this thread here which led me to the company that makes cables that are right-sized for a pcm hacking job.
Why is that the correct tool for the job you might ask?
Well, on official GM / Isuzu software, the process by which a new ECU or even an old ECU is flashed with a new software / flash memory entails the tool switching from the J1850 vpw communications protocol at standard speed to a J1850 vpw at 4x speed.
There are tools that can do this, like the topdon rlink x3 cable. The issue is that its drivers and firmware are really locked down.
That being said, it is still EXTREMELY USEFUL for the reverse engineering efforts to SCAN YOUR OWN PCM32U ECU USING THIS OPEN-SOURCE SOFTWARE
I’ll be in touch in short order. First though, I’m moving by the end of July across state and have some other stuff going on. So even with the cable, I won’t exactly have the excess of time that is needed to focus on this. That’s okay though! It will all come together soon, I’m sure ![]()
