Cherlene - CoolTrainersamson's Rodeo Sport Build

Hey, guys.

This is where I’m going to post up my build. This site has a lot of functionality that can be utilized that can go above and beyond what we typically need for an automotive forum. But, I’m still gonna work on this over time to not just show off my build like how most people do, but also show off the forum’s features.

Anyways, I’ma get it rolling. Over time this will become a bit of a wiki to keep track of everything on my build. I encourage others to do the same!

Took the time to write this out earlier so I’ll go ahead and past here too.

Design Philosophy for the Restomod:

Exterior - Restoration with some modern looking upgrades.

i.e. led projector headlights, led contoured headlight and taillight casings, wider wheel well flares, orange paint, soft-top.

It should ultimately be a restoration, but have enough work poured into it that someone has to take a second look and wonder if this is a car that is newer than it is.

Interior - Full reupholstered and technologically upgraded interior.

It should have parity with vehicles that have come out of a 2020s factory line. I’m talking custom fabbed PCBs to create can buses and touch-screen controls for the analog climate controls as well as a completely custom digital dash display. Other goodies like gang panel, heated seats, apple car play (currently has with a drop-in head unit but I’m considering an ipad setup).

Drivetrain - I want it to be the smallest semi-truck on the road.

When it’s idling at a stop light or taking off from a dead stop, necks better break from hearing a diesel chugging with some short low gears. That’s all I know.

I’m an old retired airplane maintenance mechanic/electrician who experienced the same change in airplanes. Early ones like the DC3 didn’t even have A/C power and with vacuum tube radios there are indeed antiques. Glass cockpits with all their new technology would be out of place in a DC3.

At car shows I like to see a 1939 Mercury (my first car) with the old flat head engine instead of a newer V8.

DC-3’s, Awesome! Must have been a heck of a career, working on all those great vintage aircraft!! And just imagine, about 91 years from when the first one rolled off the line, there are still around 150+ flying!

I still recall as a kid, when my Dad had not 1 but 2 '37 Ford pickups with the Flathead V8. I always thought they were so cool. Both of 'em were red.

One morning one of the trucks was gone, and he went out looking for it. Turned out someone stole it, and couldn’t get it started, so they rolled it down the hill a ways. He told me the ignition wiring was in a metal conduit that you couldn’t get at. Old-fashioned Anti-Theft device!

Also recall he was trying to sell one of 'em, '68 or '69 I think. Priced at $225, no one was interested. I’d bite on that today!

Seen some nice flatheads at various car shows, including a Roaster that the old guy hand-built over about 10+ years, and a supercharged flathead that the engine builder Guaranteed would put out over 500hp!! It had an amazing sound.
