This looks as nice (or nicer) as/than my old '89 Spacecab 4x4 did, over 20 years ago! Super-rare canopy, it only fits the length of a Spacecab bed. I had one on mine and sold it. To bad it’s not a 4x4!! Very clean interior.
What a beaut Ed!!
If that was a 4X4 I might just head down and pick it up. Seriously, if anyone has a minty Space Cab 4X4 in a 5 Spd I’m your man! My girlfriends 02 Mini Cooper S is not going to be with us for long. He’s on borrowed time already. Been looking hi and low for a rig to get her in and man it sure says something about what they’re making these days when first choice is a 30+ year old rig eh
You would have liked my old '89 Spacecab LS. Sold it to a friend of my good Mercury outboard buddy down in Shelton. And I guess they proceeded to beat the living tar out of the truck! Years later, I talked to Thom and he said it was in bad shape, but still running good!
I had a very $$$ valve job done on it, with all-new ZuZu valves I got from Jerry. And then found out the rocker arms were all worn out, so Jerry sent me some very good used ones.
The engine ran really good but the rig had a body lift, and it was a pain in the arse. It rode rather rough, and I never did find a solution for the short shifter. Made noise thru the boot. Probably should have made an extended shift lever for both the 5-speed and the xfer case levers. Or just undone the body lift, that would have solved the problem too!
Anyway, it sure was a nice truck! Had a spray-in bedliner, too!
Some old pics from 2006, taken before I sold it. In 2 of the pics you’ll see my white parts 2.6 Trooper (wish I had taken the window seals out of that one!!), and the other shows my old Swift, the white RS, and my Trooper. Those all in one shot. How’s that for history!!
At least I have pics of all these, I had just bought a Kodak Easyshare digital camera. My old '86, I don’t even think I have a pic of it anymore. Dang film cameras, ya know!!
BTW it had a really nice set of Snowflakes and 31" tires on it when I bought it for $900 (!) in 2005.
Put those “Asterick” wheels and tires on it from the parts Trooper (!!), and sold the nice wheels to a guy for about $600 as I recall. That was good money for them, back in the day.
BTW far as a really good little 4x4 pickup, in model years '98, '99, and 2000, Nissan did build a 4-cyl 4x4 Frontier. Mine’s a '98 with the Excellent KA24DE 143hp DOHC Four. It gets 24mpg around town and I’ve gotten 27-28 on the hiway.
Those 4-cyl 4x4’s are pretty rare but I see 'em once in a while. So if you do spy one for sale, take a look at it.
It wouldn’t get quite as good mpg as my 2WD, but you could expect at least 20 mpg with it, I’d say. Better than the ZuZu pickup, which really didn’t get sparkling mpg. Just a thought!
So was that the 16" snow flakes? Man I want a set of those for one of these Troopers. BTW Ins Co got back to me and after deductible I’ve got $2600 (estimate) to spend at a shop. If I can find one. So far one shop took the VIN and said if he could find the parts he’d do the work. I guess I should have asked you to find the most expensive parts, I basically copied/pasted what you sent me to get the ball rolling.
Also, that Spacecab is mint!! There’s one like that in some old dudes garage up here that never saw mud and got wiped with a diaper every Sunday… I just have to find it!!
Those were 15’s. The 16’s were on later Rodeo’s and Passports and were 7.5" wide whereas the 15’s were only 7". Good looking wheel in any case. You can tell the diff between the 15" and 16" by the shape of the holes.
And I imagine the insurance company is smart enough to know what the parts are going for nowadays!! At least we hope they are smart!!
It’s good that you found a place willing to work on it.
Guess we’ll have to keep an eye peeled for more Goodies for you!! And for me, all I want for Christmas is a nice set of rubber window gaskets!!!

For Christmas I would like a minty Stihl 044. As hard to come by up here as a Mint 4X4 Spacecab. Well, Ive seen the odd one come up on MP but they have been beat
OK, so since we’re wishing for virtually Unobtanium items, I’d wish for a Cherry, Low-Miles, Gen I Isuzu Bighorn Irmsher R Diesel!! Yeah, Baby!!!
But it would have to be in LHD!!
I have two sets of 5 of those “Astericks”. One’s on Red n White and the other I have in storage I paid $100
That was a decent deal. I still have one set of those with Very Very old cracked BFG P235’s on them. They’re 15x6.
So if you like the “Skinny Tall” look, those would do the trick. Otherwise, the 15x7 Snowflakes fit 31" tires very nicely.
Yup that rig with an 044 and and M60 in the back would make for a fun Christmas. We can’t even have M60’s here lol
It would go just about anywhere!!
This Tacoma 4x4 is Cheep at $2500 CAD, OBO! Needs some work but looks like a good project. They say it’s blowing white smoke, maybe a head gasket.
Sounds like it might have the 2.7 4-cyl. If so, that’s 150hp and might get slightly better mpg than the 3.4 V6.
If it’s a 3.4 V6, there are a Jillion parts around for them. Just be sure to check the frame for rot, that’s a thing with those.
